Americans are getting frustrated and angry with other Americans. The powerful globalist dream of a global monopoly because they only care about their money, profit, greed, and selfishness. And there are US citizens in high places that say the US Constitution is archaic and no longer relevant. Civil war could be coming soon,
while the "War on Terror" has nothing to do with

Divorce, abortion and homosexuality are suppressed and the state is represented as the ultimate guardian of the family institution.
6. Controlled Mass Media - Sometimes the media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in wartime, is very common.
7. Obsession with National Security - Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.
8. Religion and Government are Intertwined - Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions.
9. Corporate Power is Protected - The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.
10. Labor Power is Suppressed - Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed.
11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts - Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is common for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts and letters is openly attacked.
12. Obsessions with Crime and Punishment - Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.
13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption - Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.
14. Fraudulent Elections - Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.

linked to sites that published internal e-mails discussing

The Pentagon is putting the finishing touches on an electronic voting system that will allow military personnel and other Americans living abroad to cast their ballots through the Internet in the 2004 elections. experts say the Secure Electronic Registration and Voting
Experiment, or SERVE, could be tampered with to change votes or

The Homeland Security Act (now a Public Law No. 107-296) will allow a virtual, centralized grand database from commercial and government sources. It is a supersnoop's dream of total information awareness about every U.S. citizen. The net effect will be to consolidate more information with the government and make less available to the public.

Another provision sneaked-in
appears to be based on similar provisions granting broad
mandatory vaccination and quarantine powers to governors like the

In the latest episode of continuing adventures with the USA Patriot Act, FBI agents say they have used the new anti-terrorism law to prosecute a political bribery case centered on the owner of some Las Vegas strip clubs. What do topless dancers in Vegas have to do with terrorism, you may ask? Nothing, everyone agrees, unless perhaps you count the violence that some of the ladies inflict on the wallets of their mostly male clientele.
The Patriot Act, passed in the panicky weeks after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, allows the government to peak into the personal affairs of many people, not just suspected terrorists. The law's powers only begin with suspected terrorists. We have yet to learn how far it extends. "The Patriot Act was not meant to be just for terrorism," Department of Justice spokesman Mark Corallo told a reporter.
Continuing to give government more powers could be dangerous. What is the quickest way to tyranny and the best way to prevent terrorism? The answer is the same: consolidate law-enforcement agencies. The more you push toward consolidating law enforcement and information gathering, the closer you get to pushing the balance back toward that thing this country was founded to escape: tyranny. A lot of people are not seeing the need for this balance. Congress should not consolidate police and intelligence gathering under the FBI, CIA or any other alphabet agency.

USA Patriot Act (Public
Law No. 107-56) - H.R. 3162, the "Uniting and Strengthening
America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and
Obstruct Terrorism" passed the 107th Congress in the House
of Representatives by a 357-66 margin and the Senate on a 98-1
vote and enthusiastically endorsed and signed into law by
President Bush (R-TX) on October 26, 2001. The measure greatly
expands the federal law-enforcement powers, including the
authority to conduct secret searches, make secret arrests and
secretly scan electronic communications without a court order.

Congressional Republicans, working with the Bush administration, are maneuvering to make permanent the sweeping anti-terrorism powers granted to federal law-enforcement agents after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, officials said. The move is likely to touch off strong objections from many Democrats and even some Republicans in Congress who believe that the Patriot Act, as the legislation that grew out of the attacks is known, has already given the government too much power to spy on Americans. But Republicans in the Senate in recent days have discussed a proposal, authored by Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, that would repeal the so-called sunset provisions and make the expanded powers permanent, officials said. The Patriot Act I was set to expire in 3 years from the date of its enactment.
Separate, bipartisan

Schumer, D-N.Y., called the Kyl-Schumer measure would eliminate

Bush Seeks to Expand Access to Private Data by Eric Lichtblau
The Justice Department raised strong objections July 23, 2003, to a surprising House vote against covert "sneak and peek" searches in criminal investigations, a move that sponsors said reflected civil liberties concerns raised by the anti-terrorism USA Patriot Act. By a 309-118 vote, the House struck the first serious blow against the law, passed shortly after the Sept. 11 attacks.
"I think the message that 309 votes tells me is that people have the opportunity to look back and say, 'What have we really done?" said Rep. C.L. "Butch" Otter, R-Idaho. "I think it's given unbridled authority to the federal law enforcement agencies." The measure sponsored by Otter would prevent federal dollars from being spent to implement warrants that delay notification that a covert search is being conducted. The USA Patriot Act established uniform national standards for what are sometimes known as "black bag" or "sneak and peek" searches.
The amendment was attached
to the annual spending bill for the Justice Department and other
agencies, which passed the House. The bill moves on to the
Senate, giving the Bush administration time to get it removed
later this year.

Still, civil liberties groups said that the vote underscored growing concern about the Patriot Act. They noted three states Alaska, Vermont and Hawaii and 142 local governments have passed measures opposing the act, with some taking steps to prevent local officials from complying.

A push by U.S. Rep. Bernard Sanders to protect the reading habits of library and bookstore patrons from the probing eye of the federal government was dealt a setback when his amendment was blocked on procedural grounds.
Sanders' amendment, which
would prohibit the Justice Department from using any money in its
budget to search a library of booksellers under the auspices of
the USA Patriot Act, was blocked when Republican leaders barred
additional amendments to the fiscal 2004 House Appropriations
bill.

A joint House-Senate conference committee has approved a provision in the 2004 Intelligence Authorization bill that will permit the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to demand records from a number of businesses without the approval of a judge or grand jury. The measure would extend the FBI's power to seize records from banks and credit unions to securities dealers, currency exchanges, travel agencies, car dealers, post offices, casinos, pawnbrokers and any other business that, according to the government, has a "high degree of usefulness in criminal, tax or regulatory matters." Such seizures could be carried out with the approval of the judicial branch of government. Until now only banks, credit unions, and similar financial institutions were obliged to turn over such records on the FBI's demand. The provision not only permits the FBI to seize records from more kinds of businesses; it also forbids businesses from informing their clients about the seizures.
The government wants these powers in order to more effectively prosecute the "war on terrorism," although critics warn that, once given these powers, the FBI may use them in cases that are not relevant to terrorism in order to gather evidence against other targets of investigation.
The more checks and balances against government abuse are eroded, the greater that abuse.

Of the five Democratic
presidential candidates who are in Congress, only Rep. Dennis
Kucinich (D-OH) voted against the Patriot Act two years ago. Now
all of themspurred by angry would-be votershave made

proposed bills would amend or repeal sections of the law. One, an
amendment to a spending bill that would withhold funding for

Congress Expands FBI Spying Power By Ryan Singel
Among the new data mining
initiatives is a project known as Total Information Awareness (TIA),
a new program to aggregate and analyze information from a wide
array of public and commercial databases. The program being
developed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)
will be available to the new Department of Homeland Security (DHS)
and other government agencies, military and civilian. The program
is just one of a number of other government data mining efforts,
including FBI's Trilogy and the Dept. of Transportation's CAPPS
II. Such advanced data mining could give the government access to
the personal details of millions of Americans' lives, with
chilling effects on privacy and speech and implications for
travel, employment and other areas where screening is performed.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency says in its documents that it is trying to design software that could access and analyze an unprecedented amount of data, "measured in petabytes." The data the Pentagon envisions would include all kinds of visual and text files in various formats. But if it were all simple text, one petabyte would contain enough room for almost 40 pages of information on each of the more than 6.2 billion human beings on Earth.
Scores of defense industry giants, prominent universities and small technology companies submitted proposals to design and build elements of the Pentagon Total Information Awareness anti-terrorism surveillance and analysis system.
Testing is already under way or planned at the Army Intelligence and Security Command, National Security Agency, Defense Intelligence Agency, Central Intelligence Agency and several U.S. military commands.
The Pentagon wants to give U.S. agents fingertip access to records from around the world.
The FBI is working with the Pentagon "for possible experimentation" with the data-mining project. Disclosure of FBI involvement regarding the Total Information Awareness project only heightens concern about blurring the lines between domestic law enforcement and military security efforts.
DARPA told Congress the Total Information Awareness program would now be called the Terrorism Information Awareness program.
DARPA is currently soliciting proposals for a new "concept" called 'Lifelog' that would capture all computer-based interactions and transactions throughout the day from e-mail, calendar, instant messaging, web-based transactions, and other common computer applications. The Pentagon is shopping for ways to capture everything a person sees, says and hears from phone numbers dialed and emails viewed to every breath taken, step made and place gone. It may also include voice transactions and all interactions with media, including broadcast media, newspapers, magazines, books and other documents. The idea is to index the material, and make patterns easily retrievable.
The new 'Lifelog' project
has nothing to do with DARPA's Terrorism Awareness Information
program, a research initiative into creating a giant surveillance
system. The LifeLog goal is to create a searchable database of
human lives -- initially those of the developers -- to promote
artificial intelligence, the agency said. But it is one more
program that demands vigilant oversight because the more personal
experience that can be captured by digital means, the more
vulnerable that experience is to unwanted surveillance.

To track domestic
terrorist threats against the military, the Pentagon is creating
a new database that will contain "raw, non-validated"
reports of "anomalous activities" within the United
States. According to a Department of Defense memorandum, the
system, known as Talon, will provide a mechanism to collect and
rapidly share reports "by concerned citizens and military
members regarding suspicious incidents." Deputy Secretary of
Defense Paul Wolfowitz directed the heads of military departments
and agencies to begin producing Talon reports immediately.

liberal and conservative advocacy groups calls it an "Orwellian
program" and "giant suspicion-generating machine."
The groups say the initiative goes against the notion that people

Congress shouldn't rush into adopting new privacy laws that could limit the government's use of data mining to identify potential terrorists said Rep. Tom Davis (R-VA), the chairman of the House Government Reform Committee. He was speaking at an oversight hearing on current and future uses of data mining by the government held March 25, 2003, by the committee's subcommittee on Technology, Information Policy, Intergovernmental Relations, and the Census. "We're just at the beginning of a whole revolution," Davis said, adding that he hasn't yet figured out the right balance between protecting citizens' privacy and using available tools to track down terrorists. Rules written now might not even apply to the technology as it evolves, he said. "We're working our way through a brand-new territory for all of us," he said. "Who knows what the technologies will be tomorrow or what their application will be?"

The Data Mining and
Moratorium Act (S. 188) could put the brakes on the Bush
administration's Total Information Awareness plan. The Defense
Department is developing Total Information Awareness so federal
law enforcement agencies can sift through people's Internet,
medical, credit card, and travel records, regardless of whether
they are charged with a crime. The moratorium would require the
Departments of Homeland Security and Defense to inform Congress
of their database-sweeping activities. "There is no evidence
that data mining will, in fact, prevent terrorism," Senator
Feingold said in January. "And when one considers the
potential for errors in data, for example, credit agencies that
have data about John R. Smith on John D. Smith's credit report,
the prospect of ensnaring many innocents is real." The bill
would continue to allow existing intelligence techniques such as
computer searches of public information and suspected criminals.

John M. Poindexter resigned his Pentagon research job after protests from privacy advocates. He advised his boss, Anthony Tether, that he would leave the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) on August 29, 2003, almost 20 months after Tether lured him from private industry back to government service to pursue his ideas for improving anti-terrorism efforts. Poindexter said that it would have been "up to the policy-makers, Congress and the public at large not DARPA to decide whether to change law and policy to permit access to such data."
This was the second time Poindexter left government under fire. He was national security adviser to President Reagan during the Iran-Contra scandal in which arms were sold to Iran to finance Nicaraguan rebels when Congress had barred such aid.
Poindexter was convicted of lying to Congress in the affair, but an appeals court overturned his five felony convictions on grounds that prosecutors could not prove their case had not been aided by Poindexter's own testimony to Congress under a grant of immunity.
House and Senate negotiators have decided to close the Total Information Awareness program but they left open the possibility that some or all of the high-powered software tools under development might be employed by different government offices to gather foreign intelligence from foreigners, U.S. citizens aboard or foreigners in this country.
Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., who has led a campaign against the program said, "Americans on American soil are not going to be targets of TIA surveillance that would have violated their privacy and civil liberties. The government is not going to be able to pick Americans up by their ankles and shake them to see if anything funny falls out."
"The original Poindexter program would have been the biggest surveillance program in the history of the United States," he added. "Now the lights have gone out on the program conceived by John Poindexter." He said the agreement would allow foreign intelligence gathering on terrorism "without cannibalizing the civil liberties of Americans."
However, a report
accompanying a bill (H.R. 2417) said that research on the
programs can proceed even though Congress has prevented the
programs from being implemented. The bill H.R. 2417, among other
things, authorizes agencies to continue research on computerized
terrorism surveillance projects formerly operated by the Defense
Department. Those projects were widely criticized on civil
liberties grounds, prompting Congress to remove them from the
Pentagon.

Operating with permission from a secretive federal court, the FBI has broken into homes, offices, hotel rooms and automobiles. They have installed hidden cameras, listened with microphones in couple's bedrooms for years, rummaged through luggage, and eavesdropped on telephone conversations. Besides break-ins, agents have pried into safe deposit boxes, watched from afar with video cameras and binoculars and intercepted e-mails. They have planted microphones, computer bugs and other high-tech tracking devices. Only a fraction of surveillance cases each year result in any kind of public disclosure, so little is known outside classified circles about how they work. Most Americans never see this side of the FBI. The average citizen has no idea whether information about them might be caught up in one of their investigations.
In some cases, agents will sit outside a house for weeks so they can plan undetectable break-ins. Other agents will secretly watch their suspects to make sure they are elsewhere besides the house the agents intend to break-in. The FBI is cautious and very good at not being found out.
Sometimes the FBI overreaches. A FBI memo that surfaced said agents in early 2000 illegally videotaped suspects, intercepted e-mails without court permission and recorded the wrong phone conversations. In one case, the FBI listened to conversations long after its target gave up a cell phone and its number was reassigned to an innocent person.
The Foreign Intelligence
Surveillance Act was enacted in 1978 and strengthened after Sept.
11 by the USA Patriot Act. It gives investigators a formidable
weapon against "agents of a foreign power." The Bush
administration won an important court victory affirming its plans
to expand these tactics to more cases. Legal experts said this
court decision would lead to increasing use of the surveillance
law.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation reportedly has met with senior officials from the Federal Communications Commissions to push for expanded wiretapping laws that would cover VoIP technology and ISP services. The FBI's proposal calls for broadband companies to build standardized surveillance features in their applications, as well as better teeth in the compliance and enforcement laws.
There are significant privacy implications. Given the technology, the FBI would have to have access to the full pipe --including e-mail, Web browsing and instant messaging which is another area of communication the FBI wants to be able to monitor.
Perhaps of greater concern to the ISPs and VoIP providers is the fact that the FBI's proposals would add considerable cost burdens to their operations. Most ISPs are just mom-and-pop shops and not necessarily run by people who are extremely tech savvy, it is unlikely many of them would be able to afford the burden of complying
Reports say the FCC could rule on the issue as early as fall 2003 and most probably by the end of 2003.
A presidential commission proposal to use tracking codes to verify who sends and receives mail through the U.S. Postal Service is getting a chilly reception from privacy advocates who say it could violate civil liberties. The Postal Service began considering the "Intelligent Mail" idea several years ago as a way to help its commercial customers, such as credit card companies and direct marketers, get more information on when and if their mail reaches intended recipients.
Critics warned that there is too much of a threat to Americans' privacy rights if Intelligent Mail is applied to all mail. "You have to question the Big Brother aspect of the government being able to document who is writing who," said Rick Merritt, executive director of the Virginia Beach-based advocacy group PostalWatch. "There will be some serious privacy concerns if it becomes mandatory that all mail be sender identified."
The proposal contradicts the Postal Service's cherished notion of anonymous correspondence, said Ari Schwartz, associate director of the Center for Democracy and Technology in Washington, D.C. "There is a rich history in this country around the concept of anonymous mail that goes back to the Federalist Papers," Schwartz said, referring to the documents anonymously authored by the nation's founding fathers which helped sway public opinion in favor of ratifying the Constitution. "There are way too many unknowns about expanding this idea beyond its original scope, including who would have access to the information, and what this would mean for tracking individuals in the future," Schwartz said. "We just haven't dealt with those questions yet."

Mail system would be too expensive and invasive. "The notion
that this proposal would somehow be able to solve the problem of
people doing bad things through the mail is ludicrous,"

The California Public Defenders Association (CPDA), a membership organization of more than 3,000 criminal defense lawyers, joins with other criminal defense lawyers and citizens to decry the new rules on federal charging and plea bargaining announced by U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft.
In a memo directed to all federal prosecutors, Ashcroft directed them to charge the most serious offense possible in all cases. "Most serious offense" appears to mean the offense with the longest sentence. The new rules seem to apply to both misdemeanors and felonies.
The new Ashcroft policy is wrong for the following reasons:
1. It is not cost
effective. With less incentive to plea bargain, more people will
go to trial.
2. It will politicize the criminal justice process. This policy
is a vote of "no-confidence" in federal prosecutors'
ability to exercise discretion.
3. It will imprison more people.
4. It will destroy confidence in the federal justice system.
Having the harshest sentence possible as the goal, which
supplants all other goals, undermines the fairness of a system
that has always taken into account human shortcomings and
mistakes.
5. It panders to the public without addressing any of the root
causes of crime in our society. A policy enacted more than a
decade ago gave federal prosecutors more discretion. Department
of Justice figures indicate that crime had been going down for
much of the last decade.

The Bush administration should drop plans to let agents eavesdrop on conversations between terrorism suspects and defense lawyers and should ease other restrictions to ensure military tribunals are fair and open, the American Bar Association said. Besides the eavesdropping rule, the ABA objected to restrictions on civilian defense lawyers' access to information. NEW YORK (Reuters) - The United States is rapidly losing apartments to demolition, and rent on available units is rising, pinching consumers struggling with home affordability, according to a new study released on Wednesday
The report from Harvard University's Joint Center for Housing Studies found evidence of growing disparities between low- and higher-income renters in getting apartments.
"We are taking one step forward and two steps back as gentrification in some neighborhoods and continued deterioration in others leads to the removal of vitally needed lower-cost rental housing," Nicolas Retsinas, director of the Joint Center, said in a statement.
About 200,000 rental units are lost each year despite programs like the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit that contribute new affordable units.
"Difficulty accessing the resources needed to maintain this much needed housing too often sets off a cycle of disinvestment and demolition" of existing rental units, Retsinas said.
Median rent rose to $974 in 2004, up 33 percent from $734 10 years earlier, the study found. Monthly renter income, however, rising to $2,348, was up a mere 3 percent from $2,272 during the same period.
People with higher incomes may choose to rent for a flexible lifestyle, to avoid costs of homeownership or a volatile purchase market, or for life transitions such as divorce or job change.
Those at the bottom of the income group have little choice but to rent, the study concludes. Seventy percent of the seven million lowest-income renters pay more than half of their income for housing, leaving little for other expenses.
Minority and immigrant renter households will grow and trigger demand for more than 1.8 million rental units between 2005 and 2015, the study said. If it were not for foreign-born households, the number of renters would have fallen by more than 2 million, or 5 percent, from 1993 to 2003, instead of rising by 118,000.
Five years of record home sales and double-digit house price gains are also crimping affordability at higher income levels than in the past.
In high-cost areas such as Boston and San Francisco, the study said schoolteachers and nurses are among workers paying more than 30 percent of their income to rent a "modest" two-bedroom apartment.
Much of the nearly 3 million new rental units built between 1994 and 2003 was in fast-growing suburbs of major metropolitan areas in the South and West. Most were in the upper end of the market.
In the last decade, the divide between the haves and have-nots has accelerated, the study found. The top fifth of renter households saw a 17 percent average income gain while the bottom fifth saw little growth from 1993 to 1999 and declines afterward.

"Rising land prices and density restrictions in many jurisdictions have significantly raised the long-run costs of supplying housing that the vast majority of renters can afford," the report said.
"Although the high end of the rental market is still adjusting from a period of overbuilding, it seems inevitable that developers will continue to focus on this housing market segment -- bringing little relief to the many renters with limited ability to pay," according to the report.
The report said federal funding restrictions prevent the expansion of subsidized housing. Efforts to stem losses of the rapidly deteriorating stock of privately owned low-cost rental apartments have gained little attention, the study said.
About two-thirds of all lower-income families live in privately owned rental properties, usually older, smaller multifamily buildings and single-family homes. When the units fail to generate profits, the owners often lack skills or resources to maintain the building.
"Without new policies to address these barriers to preservation, both subsidized and unsubsidized units will continue to disappear from the inventory of affordable housing," the report said.
The study also advocates looser restrictions on developing affordable, higher-density rental housing in affluent suburban communities that have greater access to top-quality schools, services and other resources.

Even the high court that decides how much God can be in public lives starts off each session with, "God save the United States and this honorable court," and displays a frieze that includes a depiction of Moses as the lawgiver, holding tablets with the Ten Commandments.
Religious symbols and words are embedded in the government, the courts and other public places. God is in the details even the grand designs of the republic. State courthouses are decorated with religious art. Some of the expressions of religion are widely accepted as part of American traditions a kind of cultural deity like a president taking office with the oath, "So help me God."
Members of Congress who engage in debate over the separation of church and state do so after a prayerful beginning to their day. A recent prayer in the Senate asked, "Fill our God-shaped void with Your presence and bid our striving to cease." On the same day in the House, members bowed their heads to the plea that "You, Lord, will lead, guide and direct them in their affairs."
America's Declaration of Independence in 1776 presupposed that people believed in a divinity. "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights ..." The Constitution guaranteed its free exercise and its reference to a higher power was a much used expression. "Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty seven."

Remember it was President Ronald Reagan (R-CA) in the 1980s that wanted Congress to have a pay raise. In fact, this is just one example of his contradictions. He said on March 31, 1976 before he became a President of the United States, "As a matter of fact, government makes a profit on inflation. For instance, last July Congress vaccinated itself against that pain. It very quietly passed legislation (which the president signed into law) which automatically now gives a pay increase to every Congressman every time the cost of living goes up."
Notice the big jumps in Congress pay during the 1981-1989 Reagan years:
US Rep. Jim Matheson (D-Utah) failed for the sixth straight year yesterday in his campaign to get Congress to turn down its automatic 2 percent annual pay increase. In a 249 to 167 vote, the House rejected Mathesons procedural motion that would have forced an actual vote on the increase. Unless changed by the Senate, rank-and-file members of Congress will get a $3,300 raise in January 2007, bringing their annual salary to $168,500.
In 1989, Congress amended
federal law to allow members an automatic cost-of-living
increase, unless they specifically vote to refuse it.
Congressional pay and raises are included as part of the massive
annual appropriations bill for the Departments of Transportation,
Treasury, HUD, Judiciary, and District of Columbia.

The Republican-controlled Senate refused to raise the minimum
wage, rejecting an election-year proposal from Democrats for the
first increase in nearly a decade. The vote was 52-46, eight
short of the 60 needed. The Senate vote marked the ninth
time since 1997 that Democrats there have proposed - and
Republicans have blocked - a stand-alone increase in the minimum
wage.
"Americans believe that no one who works hard for a living should have to live in poverty. A job should lift you out of poverty, not keep you in it," said Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass. He said a worker paid $5.15 an hour would earn $10,700 a year, "almost $6,000 below the poverty line for a family of three."
With no Congressional
action on raising the minimum wage since 1997, inflation has
eroded wages. The minimum wage in the 21st century is $2 lower in
real dollars than it was four decades ago and now stands at its
lowest level since 1955, according to the Economic Policy
Institute and Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.

The Bush administration, the Republican-led Congress, and the dominant corporate interests in this country want cheap labor. And to achieve that goal they're outsourcing middle-class jobs, importing illegal labor and cutting retirement and health-care benefits.
When legislators can give themselves pay raises they are like royalty. They get benefits and free health care that most people would kill for. They are set for life as members of the "I got mine club" and want the taxpayer, the people they serve that have-not, to stay away and to not bother them. It creates a careless system like kings and queens over servants and slaves.
Of course there are still a few good people in Congress.
America's leaders, lawmakers and policy-makers go unpunished for their bad policies and decisions. They will never feel the pain for the suffering they cause to its citizens. They can stay on the payroll and keep their benefits even if they do wrong. They continue to do wrong because they are not held accountable. A way to put a stop to this injustice is to hold them accountable and take away their benefits and powers as punishment for their bad decisions.

Johnson and Nixon had the

Cord Meyer, Jr. died on March 13, 2001. He was a First Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps and served 26 years at the C.I.A., where he held management positions in the covert operations branch.

Mr. Meyer's twin brother, Quentin, was killed at Okinawa.
After he returned home from the war, he was named a special assistant to Harold E. Stassen, a member of the United States delegation to the 1945 conference that founded the United Nations.
"He was young and idealistic and very much involved in the one world movement," said Jeane J. Kirkpatrick, a former American delegate to the United Nations.
Mr. Meyer was a founding
member of the United World Federalists. He also helped establish
the American Veterans Committee, a liberal group that sought to
deny preferential treatment for veterans. While in that
organization, he came in direct contact with Communist
infiltration techniques, said his son, Mark Meyer.
He left his postgraduate
work at Harvard and signed up with the C.I.A.
Two years after joining the spy agency, Mr. Meyer was accused by
the F.B.I. of Communist sympathies. A C.I.A. hearing board
eventually acquitted him of all charges.
Mrs. Meyer was fatally
shot in 1964 as she walked along the towpath of the Chesapeake
and Ohio Canal in Georgetown. A day laborer found hiding in the
bushes along the canal was acquitted of the crime, and it remains
unsolved.
After her death, Mrs. Meyer's sister and brother-in-law said they
saw the top C.I.A. counterintelligence officer, James J.
Angleton, try to break into her home and take her diary.
Mrs. Meyer's brother-in-law, Benjamin C. Bradlee, later became
executive editor of The Washington Post. The diary, which Mr.
Bradlee and his wife found later that day, disclosed an affair
between Mrs. Meyer and President John F. Kennedy.

While at the C.I.A., Mr. Meyer eventually became second-in-command of worldwide clandestine services. But, in the public mind, he was more associated with a number of domestic activities, some of which were denounced as "dirty tricks" by his critics.
At the C.I.A., Mr. Meyer supervised Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty, the United States government broadcasts to Eastern Europe.
Mr. Meyer wrote three
books, including a memoir, "Facing Reality," which
reflected on his journey from an advocate of world government to
his role as spymaster. For nearly 20 years ending in 1998, he was
a nationally syndicated columnist where his work appeared
frequently in The Washington Times.
He was a member of the
Metropolitan Club, the Yale Club of Washington and the Council on
Foreign Relations.

MEYER
I am greatly saddened by the death of Cord Meyer, a passionate
defender of freedom around the world. During a remarkable
intelligence career spanning more than a quarter of a century,
Cord defined the concept, doctrine, and implementation of covert
action on behalf of the security and interests of our nation. At
the height of the Cold War, he played an instrumental role in
America's effort to counter Soviet influence. His leadership,
innovation, and creativity inspired his colleagues and helped
shape the Agency's history.
After retiring from the Agency in 1977, Cords passion and
his profound knowledge of world affairs was reflected in his
thoughtful columns on a wide range of issues.
It was with great pride that CIA honored Cord Meyer as one of its
Trailblazers when the Agency celebrated its 50th anniversary in
1997.
I want to express my deepest condolences to the Meyer family on
behalf of all the men and women of the Intelligence Community.

Robert F. Kennedy (R.F.K.) was involved in Senate
hearings into organized crime and labor. He was campaigning for
the Democratic nomination for President in 1968 and he was
assassinated also! It was reported that there were CIA black ops
specialists in the hotel at the time of R.F.K.'s assassination.
It is worth remembering that Richard Nixon was Prescott Bush's
chosen one. Bush did not like J.F.K. winning the Presidential
election against Nixon in 1962 and would have hated the idea of R.F.K.

George H.W. Bush's (Bush senior) long standing connections to the
CIA's Cuban operations and that he later became Director of the
Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). So, the implications of this

At issue is House efforts to expand "Buy America" rules requiring the Pentagon to give preference to American suppliers. House Republicans say the Pentagon has become too dependent on foreign producers that could cut off supplies in disputes over U.S. policies. The Bush administration and Senator John Warner (R-VA) oppose the House proposal, viewing it as protectionist legislation that could limit international partnerships. Under the House bill, 65 percent of components in items purchased by the Pentagon would have to be made in America, compared with 50 percent under current law. Certain items, such as machine tools and tires, would have to be made in America.
President Bush's push to outsource hundreds of thousands of federal jobs could end up shifting some high-tech employment to foreign workers, administration and industry officials said on Sept. 11, 2003. Although Bush has been calling for the creation of more jobs, his administration has been promoting a plan to open roughly 425,000 federal jobs to competition from private companies. A report by the Congressional Research Service undermines Vice President Dick Cheney denial of a continuing relationship with Halliburton Co., the energy company he once led, Sen. Frank Lautenberg said. The report says a public official's unexercised stock options and deferred salary fall within the definition of "retained ties" to his former company.
Cheney said on NBC's "Meet the Press" that since becoming vice president, "I've severed all my ties with the company, gotten rid of all my financial interest. I have no financial interest in Halliburton of any kind and haven't had, now, for over three years." Democrats pointed out that Cheney receives deferred compensation from Halliburton under an arrangement he made in 1998, and also retains stock options. He has pledged to give after-tax proceeds of the stock options to charity.
Lautenberg, D-N.J., asked the Congressional Research Service to weigh in. Without naming Cheney or Halliburton, the service reported that unexercised stock options and deferred salary "are among those benefits described by the Office of Government Ethics as 'retained ties' or 'linkages' to one's former employer." Lautenberg said the report makes clear that Cheney does still have financial ties to Halliburton. "I ask the vice president to stop dodging the issue with legalese," Lautenberg said.
Cheney was chief executive officer of Halliburton from 1995 through August 2000. The company's KBR subsidiary is the main government-contractor working to restore Iraq's oil industry in an open-ended contract that was awarded without competitive bidding.

The United States Supreme Court ruled in a 5-4 decision to give
local governments broad power to seize private property to
generate tax revenue. In a scathing dissent, Justice Sandra Day
O'Connor said the decision bowed to the rich and powerful at the
expense of poor and middle-class Americans. Today the Court
abandons this long-held, basic limitation on government power.
Under the banner of economic development, all private property is
now vulnerable to being taken and transferred to another private
owner. If such 'economic development' takings are for a 'public
use', any taking is, and the Court has erased the Public Use
Clause from our Constitution, as JUSTICE O'CONNOR powerfully

"The Bush administration proposal is not only anti-worker
and anti-family, it is bad economic policy," said Democratic
Sen. Tom Harkin of Iowa. "It will take money out of the
pockets of hardworking Americans and will not create one new job."
Sen. Robert C. Byrd, D-W.Va., warned, "Americas
workers should be very concerned about the overtime changes being
proposed by the Bush administration."
A House vote opposing the
Bush administration plans to rewrite decades-old rules on
overtime pay, saying it was a clear signal to the Labor
Department that new rules denying benefits to millions of workers
were unacceptable. President Bush has threatened to veto the
spending bill if it includes the prohibition on the overtime
changes, which are strongly backed by business groups.

The proposed overtime law allows several ways that employers could avoid paying overtime to low-wage workers. Employers' options to reduce costs include cutting the wages of the 1.3 million low-wage workers newly eligible for overtime, then adding the overtime to equal the original salary; or raising salaries to the new $22,100 annual threshold so they would be ineligible.

American jobs are not the only thing threatened by offshore outsourcing, personal information is also at risk. Outsourcing of call center jobs to foreign companies poses a danger to medical, financial and other information of U.S. citizens. There is no assurance that privacy will be protected when personal data is transferred to offshore companies that are beyond the reach of U.S. law enforcement. The implications for identity theft by gangs, breaches of homeland security by al-Qaida, and criminal misuse and abuse by multinational corporations are frightening.
Businesses in a number of fields, including high-tech, are moving an increasing amount of work from the United States and Europe to affiliates or contractors in countries including India, China and the Philippines, generally to cut costs. That movement has provoked a heated response to protect workers at home.
Americans are losing their jobs and their privacy in one fell swoop.

A far-reaching bill to
reauthorize the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) will
override state financial privacy laws and gut state identity
theft protections, according to the Foundation for Taxpayer and
Consumer Rights (FTCR). Two versions of the bill, S. 1753 and H.R.
2622, have already cleared the U.S Senate and the House of
Representative. A final conference committee agreement announced
includes a broad pre-emption of state identity theft protections.

The U.S. Senate voted on legislation that will allow banks to share or sell a consumer's private financial information to corporate affiliates despite state laws limiting such activity. The federal legislation will override a new landmark California financial privacy law and pre-empt any future state laws that attempt to limit information sharing between a bank and its corporate family.
The fact that anyone can buy nearly everyone's Social Security numbers and other private information legally underscores the need for stronger, not weaker, privacy protections. The reckless exchange of social security numbers and other private information among America's corporations has dramatically increased Americans' risk of identity theft.
"First the banks take our privacy, now they are taking our right to protect ourselves when we are victimized by identity thieves," Jerry Flanagan, a consumer advocate for The Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights (FTCR)... "This bill protects banks and identity thieves, not consumers... The reckless exchange of social security numbers and other private information among America's corporations has dramatically increased Americans' risk of identity theft. Identity theft led all complaints to the Federal Trade Commission in 2000, 2001, and 2002 and doubled in 2002. Recently the FTC announced almost 10 million Americans are victimized by identity theft each year.
The Bush Administration's support of S.1753 preemption of stronger state privacy laws violates promises the president made during his 2000 campaign. Bush said he wanted to make it a criminal offense to sell a person's social security number without his or her permission. Bush also said: "I think there ought to be laws that say a company cannot use my information without my permission. We can live in a private world." Similarly, President Bush said, "I believe privacy is a fundamental right, and that every American should have absolute control over his or her personal information."
Since the 2002 election
cycle, big banks contributed $20.6 million dollars to
Congressional representatives -- 63 percent to Republicans. Since
2000, President Bush has received $2.1 million from securities
and investment firms, $582,250 from commercial banks, $562,292
from insurance companies and another $967,100 from other finance
companies. Citigroup's support of the bill, which has 2400
affiliates, spent $4.6 million so far this year lobbying on
Capitol Hill to take Americans' privacy rights and $11.7 million
since 2000.

The coalition is concerned about plans by the Office of Management and Budget to rewrite OMB Circular A-76 in a way that it will make it easier for private companies to receive government contracts.
"The effort to sell government to big business cannot continue -particularly when it deals with privatizing public services which are inherently governmental," said John Gage, the president of the American Federation of Government Employees which is a member of the coalition and represents some 600,000 federal workers. "This new option being pushed by the Bush Administration would accelerate a process which we believe will have a detrimental impact on services to the American people," he added. "It has not been shown to save taxpayers money but in fact removes the rights of Americans to be stakeholders in the running of their government."

Mandatory
Insurance Schemes
Mandatory insurance is like making you automatically guilty and liable by forcing you to buy it. They presume you are always irresponsible and a monetary danger to others no matter what. You cannot drive without mandatory auto insurancs, you cannot get health care without health insurance, and now you cannot rent without manadatory renters insurance. Add you cannot get a higher education without mandatory health insurance. What is next? You cannot call America a free society because of these mandatory insurance schemes brought by lawyers, corporations, and government.
It is another way to pick your pocket.
Part of the
motivation of mandatory insurance is to drive poor people out of
their cars, out of their homes, out of medical care, and out of
higher education. Mandatory insurance should be abolished because
it criminalizes the poor and the lower class.

claims. The insurance companies are cooking their books to create
a "crisis" as a smokescreen to cover their own losses
